If you are traveling to Hawaii in February, here are a few annual local events for you to consider adding to your itinerary.

When you are on the Big Island make a stop at Hilo, home of The Hilo Mardi Gras. Also known as The “Hula Capital of the World, Hilo loves to put on a parade. This is their annual New-Orleans style parade, festival and party all wrapped in one. The streets are full of elaborately costumed dancers, festive music and local foods.

One of the longest running events in Hawaii is the Punahou School Carnival. This annual Honolulu event is a high school fundraiser that started in 1932 and now it attracts upwards of 50,000 people. The carnival is known for its local delicacies that includes malasadas, Hawaiian plates, Portuguese bean soup and gyros. This is a wonderful opportunity to participate in the local Hawaiian culture.

Visit the spot in Waimea, Kauai, where famous explorer Captain James Cook first landed in Hawaii. The Captain Hook Festival commemorates the event with entertainment, canoe races, games, and food. The highlight is the mini-marathon race.

The Carole Kai Bed Race brings participants from all over the world to race down the streets of Lahania in Maui, Lihue in Kauai and Honolulu in Oahu. This two-day fundraising event feature wildly costumed bed-racers for the amusement of over 100,000 onlookers.

Watch top rated longboard surfers in the two-day Buffalo’s Big Board Surfing Classic at Makaha Beach, Oahu. This is traditional Hawaiian surfing, long boarding, and canoe-surfing.

You’ve finally made that big decision on where you want to go for your next vacation! Mexico? Caribbean? Europe? Nope…you’ve decided to visit the number one rated vacation island in the world. Look out Maui, here we come!

Now that you have made that big decision to take a Maui vacation, it is time to decide where you are going to stay. Is there really a difference in the quality of resorts on Maui? Actually, there is a BIG difference between Maui resorts but it’s not necessarily the quality of the resorts. Actually, the decision on which Maui resort you pick should be based more on what type of experience you want to have during your Maui vacation!

You need to ask yourself several important questions regarding the type of Maui resort where you want to stay. They are…

Do you want to stay in a hotel or a condo. If you are planning on doing some cooking while you are on your Maui vacation, you will probably want to rent a condo.

Are you going to spend all your time away from the condo and you just, basically, want a place to sleep or do you plan to spend time relaxing at the resort and taking it easy?

Do you want the Maui resort to be right on the ocean or is a short walk to the beach okay?

Do you want the Maui resort to be in a specific location such as Napili, Kahana, Lahaina, Kihei or Wailea?

What kind of view do you want from your Maui resort condo? Do you want ocean front, ocean view, garden view or mountain view?

What is your budget?

Those are just a few of the questions you need to ask yourself before you go on your Maui vacation. Each one of those questions will have an effect how much you pay for your condo! There are other factors to be considered but that will give you somewhere to start.

Most people don’t understand that careful planning prior to their Maui vacation can save them quite a bit of money. Depending on the length of time you are planning on staying on Maui, you could save $1,000 or more!

Perched on the banks of the River Soar and edging the English National Forest, Leicester is a thriving, progressive city with a vibrant immigrant population.

Now the largest city in the East Midlands, Leicester is one of the oldest cities in England with a history going back to pre-Roman times. Once inhabited by Celtic tribes, Leicester became a settlement on the Roman road and the remains of Roman baths can be seen today. Modern Leicester is a very livable city graced with with Victorian architecture. Many of the inner city streets are pedestrianised and the area is well-served with shopping outlets including Leicester Market, Europe’s largest covered market. The city’s historic quarter lies to the west and is marked by the castle, cathedral and a bevy of medieval churches.

Leicester’s rich cosmopolitan mix results in a wide range of ethnic foods and cultural events. Leicester is home to many fine Indian restaurants and the city resounds to festivals such as Diwali.

Transport: getting there and getting around

Leicester is conveniently located on the UK’s main transport arteries. The city is close to the M1 motorway and lies on the Midland Main Line from London to Sheffield, Nottingham and Leeds. High-speed trains can reach London in just over an hour. Trains from Leicester arrive at London St Pancras from where Eurostar international services depart for Europe.

Leicester is convenient for East Midlands Airport which is served by low cost carriers with international flights to Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Frankfurt and domestic flights to Edinburgh and Belfast. Limited services connect with Barbados, Mexico and Florida.

An extensive bus network operates in and around Leicester.

Climate:
Mild and wet best describes the English weather and the further north you go, the colder it gets. However, inland temperatures don’t get much below freezing in the winter months of December to February, or much above 30C in summer.
However, the East Midlands tends to have higher rainfall in the summer and less sunshine in winter.

While on a cruise, you may want to take pictures as a way to preserve the memories of the wonderful time you had. Pictures of sights, views, friends, and events are the types of pictures the many people take when they are on a cruise, especially those that allow passengers to visit different port cities along the way. Because most people will only take one or two cruises in their lifetime, it is important that they have pictures to show other people and as a way to remember the trip years later.

Unfortunately, after the cruise is over, the pictures sit undeveloped for weeks, months, or even years. While most people have digital cameras, the images from their cruise are never downloaded onto a CD or they are put into a file folder never to be seen again. If you want to create something special for your pictures, creating a scrapbook is one way to preserve your pictures and the memories you have of the cruise.

Scrapbooks are very easy to create and can last for many years. Buying a few supplies including water resistant book, photo glue, and decorative accents are all you will need. Developing pictures from your vacation is the next step. After printing your pictures, you will be ready to add them to the scrapbook. This can be done any way you want it to be. Use your imagination and have a good time reminiscing about your trip.

If you don’t want to create a scrapbook, but you want to preserve the pictures so friends and family can look at them later, buy an acid proof box and have your pictures developed. Placing them in this box will protect them for many years. There are many types of boxes available with pretty designs to choose from.

In addition to pictures, you can add cocktail napkins, show tickets, and any other items you may have kept from your cruise. These are small items that will bring back many memories. Keep these items in your memory box with your pictures so you will have many stories to tell later on.

Taking pictures while on vacation may seem a bit daunting at first, but once you begin, you will find yourself taking pictures of everything you see. Even though some of your pictures will not be worth saving because they were out of focus or they did not have enough light, most of them will tell the story of your holiday.

If travelling with a group, designate one or two people to take pictures so all the events will be photographed. You can share pictures through email later on and let people choose which pictures to print. Some people do not enjoy taking pictures, so only ask those who want to take them during the trip. For a Great Vacation, Get Booted – to Idyllic Southeast Italy

My holiday in Italy was a dream come true and my wish to enjoy the less touristy side of Italy was realized. I stayed in a vacation rental villa in the city of Avetrana , situated in the Apulien region which is also called the “boot heel” of Italy. This was the perfect way to experience the local culture and the little villa in Italy served as a great hideaway when I wanted to be alone.

Located in an area in Avetrana called Urmo Belsito, this vacation rental villa boasted a beautiful view of the sea from a rooftop terrace. Nestled on a small hill, my idyllic Italian paradise was within a few miles of the beach on the Ionian Sea. The open-aired balcony offered not only the great view but also a pleasant breeze that was cooling in the warm weather. I enjoyed the fine sandy beaches and clear blue waters and when I got tired, I just dusted myself off and headed to my villa.

This villa in Italy possessed two bedrooms and extra beds for guests (up to four people total), along with the requisite bathroom and kitchen. The landscaping was fitting for the beach town environment and the bricked courtyards were perfect for an evening of dining under the stars. With all the basic necessities and storage, this vacation rental villa made a perfect home base for traveling to other cities in the region like Tarent and Gallipoli. Both towns were within a short driving distance for sightseeing and partaking of various cultural activities.

During my adventures of meandering through the streets of Avetrana , I visited wonderful quaint stores and found some great deals on linens and ceramics and picked up a few lovely bottles of wine. Shopping for food in the markets was a fun experience. The townspeople were so gracious and friendly, even inviting me, a perfect stranger, over for dinner! Just the hospitality alone made my holiday in Italy worth it.

Day trips throughout the Apulien region to cities like Tarent and Gallipoli provided some great times. I rented a car and traveled the winding, narrow roads of the countryside, fascinated by the old stone walls left over from ancient times. The views of the coastline were spectacular and the architecture in these towns and those that dotted the countryside was amazing. My vacation in Italy was studded with valuable gems of sights, sounds and people. Of course, the food was excellent, with rich olive oils and fresh seafood.

All of these day trips to places like Tarent and Gallipoli and many points in between were made possible, thanks to my little vacation rental villa in Urmo Belsito in the city of Avetrana . Having it as my “home base” was a treasure. This little villa in Italy allowed me to relax after a long, eventful day of sightseeing. All the amenities like a washer, refrigerator and stove enabled me to save some money when I needed to do laundry or prepare a home-cooked meal. It was my home away from home! For a great vacation in Italy, I suggest getting the “boot” to the southeast region of Apulien, specifically a quaint little vacation rental villa in Urmo Belsito in Avetrana .
